How to File a DMCA Takedown on Dailymotion
Dailymotion is one of the world's biggest video platforms, and it inherits YouTube's oldest problem: channels that fill themselves with other people's videos, full re-uploads, cropped copies, and monetized rips. Dailymotion runs a dedicated copyright notification form and commits to processing valid requests within 48 hours. Here's how to file one properly.
Before you start
- Proof of ownership, a link to your original video (your channel on any platform, or your website) with a date that predates the copy.
- The URL of every infringing video. Copy each video's address from the browser bar; a channel link alone won't do it.
- Your contact details, full name and a monitored email address.
- Confirm you're the copyright owner or an authorized agent, Dailymotion only accepts notifications from one of the two.
Step 1: Open Dailymotion's copyright page
Go to https://legal.dailymotion.com/en/copyright/. This official legal page explains the process and holds the buttons that matter: "Send a copyright notification" for takedowns, and a separate counter-notification link used by uploaders who dispute removals.
Step 2: Click "Send a copyright notification"
The button opens Dailymotion's copyright notification form in its Help Center. Use this form rather than the generic "report inappropriate content" flag on the video player, the flag is for violence, hate, and similar violations, and copyright claims sent that way go nowhere.
Step 3: Identify yourself and your work
Fill in your name, email, and whether you act as the rights owner or an authorized agent. Then identify the original work: title, where it was first published, and a link the reviewer can open. If the copy was trimmed, re-encoded, or retitled, describe the differences so the match is easy to confirm.
Step 4: List every infringing URL
Paste the direct URL of each infringing video. Dailymotion removes what you identify, so if a channel has re-uploaded ten of your videos, all ten links belong in the notification. Adding the channel URL as context is fine, but never as a substitute for the video links.
Step 5: Sign the statements and submit
Complete the standard DMCA declarations, good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized, accuracy of the information, and, under penalty of perjury, that you're the owner or authorized to act for them, then sign with your full name and submit. You'll get an email receipt from the Help Center; keep it.
What happens after you file
Dailymotion's support team processes valid notifications within 48 hours, removing the videos and notifying the uploader. Channels that keep re-uploading protected content fall under Dailymotion's repeated-infringement policy and can be terminated. The uploader can file a counter-notification, in which case Dailymotion may restore the video unless you escalate legally. Pirate channels tend to respawn under new names, so recheck for your titles every few weeks, or hand the watch to Rulta, a done-for-you DMCA takedown service that monitors, files, and follows up on takedowns for video creators across platforms.
