How to Remove Your Content from RedGifs

RedGifs is the hosting backbone for a huge share of adult clips on Reddit, when a stolen loop of your content goes viral, the file usually lives on RedGifs while Reddit posts merely embed it. That makes RedGifs a high-leverage takedown target: remove the source clip and every embed pointing at it dies with it. Here's how to file.

Before you start

  • Proof of ownership, the original video the loop was cut from, or a link to where it was first published.
  • Direct RedGifs URLs. Open the embedded clip and copy its actual redgifs.com address; a Reddit post link is not enough. Search RedGifs for your stage name and tags too, stolen clips are usually tagged with it.
  • A monitored email address for confirmations and questions.
  • A filing decision. File personally and your legal name goes on the notice; file through an authorized agent or takedown service and theirs does.

Step 1: Locate RedGifs' reporting channels

Look in the RedGifs site footer and help or support pages for links labeled DMCA, Content Removal, or Report, the current official routes are listed there. Individual clips also carry a report option. Avoid email addresses quoted on forums; if RedGifs' own pages don't list a channel, don't use it.

Step 2: Choose copyright or non-consensual reporting

If you own the source video, file a DMCA notice. If you appear in the clip, whoever filmed it, use the non-consensual content report instead: it requires no ownership documents and, under the verification standards adult platforms adopted from 2020 onward, is often actioned faster than a copyright claim.

Step 3: Compile every infringing URL

List each RedGifs clip URL separately. Loops get duplicated aggressively, so run searches for your handle, common tags, and any watermark text before filing, catching ten copies in one notice beats filing ten times.

Step 4: Write the DMCA notice

Include identification of your original work (what it is, where it was first posted, when), the infringing URLs, your or your agent's contact details, the good-faith and accuracy statements, the penalty-of-perjury declaration that you're the owner or their agent, and a typed signature.

Step 5: Submit and save your records

File through the channel you found in Step 1 and keep the notice text, URL list, and any acknowledgment. If some clips survive, follow up referencing the original submission.

Step 6: Clean up the embeds and search results

After the RedGifs source is gone, spot-check the Reddit posts that embedded it, most will now be dead. Report any Reddit-hosted copies to Reddit separately, and submit stale URLs to Google's removal tool so they drop out of search.

What happens after you file

Valid reports are typically processed within a few business days, and repeat-infringer accounts can be terminated. Counter-notification is possible on copyright claims, in which case you'll be contacted before anything is restored. Because short loops are the easiest format to rip and re-upload, expect recurrences: recurring searches, or a monitoring service like Rulta that scans RedGifs and Reddit continuously, files for you, and keeps your legal name off every notice, is what keeps your content gone.

Frequently asked questions

Why does removing a RedGifs clip matter so much for Reddit?

Much of Reddit's adult content is hosted on RedGifs and embedded into posts. Removing the clip at the RedGifs source breaks every Reddit embed that points to it at once.

Where do I file a RedGifs takedown?

Check the RedGifs site footer and help/support section for links labeled DMCA, Content Removal, or Report. Use only channels the site itself lists.

Do I need to own the copyright?

For a DMCA notice, yes, you must own the content or be authorized to act for the owner. If you appear in the clip, you can instead report it as non-consensual content, which doesn't require ownership proof.

Can I keep my name off the notice?

Yes. Have an authorized agent or a takedown service file for you; their name appears on the notice instead of your legal name.

The same loop keeps getting re-uploaded. What now?

Each new URL needs a new report. Regular searches for your stage name and watermark, or an automated monitoring service, are the practical fix.
